Spicy Lentil Rice Burgers

This recipe is simple and quick. Made primarily with lentils, brown rice, and sunflower seeds, these patties are protein and fiber dense, so you can nosh knowing that you’re eating a wholesome and filling dish. A little vegan mayo goes great with this particular recipe: it has that cool-down creaminess without overshadowing the taste of the burger.

Spicy Lentil Rice Burgers [Vegan]

Ingredients

For the Patties:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3/4 cup brown rice, cooked
  • 3/4 cup red lentils, cooked
  • 1/2 cup panko bread
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seed kernels
  • 1/2 red onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 2 teaspoons red chili pepper flakes
  • Salt, to taste

For Garnish:

Preparation

  1. Pulse all the ingredients in the food processor a few times until more or less uniformly mixed. Don't overdo it though, leave some texture.
  2. Taste and adjust the salt.
  3. Shape into patties and cook both sides in a pan until a golden-brown crust develops.
