In Chinese medicine, the morning is when your digestive energy is at its strongest.
If you don't eat a healthy breakfast, you weaken the energy. On the contrary, if you DO eat a warm, healthy breakfast, you strengthen your digestive energy.
I'm sure you've heard me say a hundred times by now how important healthy digestion is for supporting your fertility and pregnancy.
I recommend having a warm breakfast (because cold foods, especially first thing in the morning, weaken your digestive "fire") with protein (because protein is the building block of cells and balances your blood sugar levels, thereby providing you with more energy until lunch and preventing sugar cravings).
By eating protein and having a warm breakfast, your body produces more healthy nutrient-rich red blood cells needed to build a healthy lining.
When I follow my own advice, I notice my periods (which tend to be on late and on the too-light side if I'm not careful) are more substantial and arrive on time.
Why?
Because I'm building my blood, as we say in Chinese medicine. I also notice that my skin and eyes are less dry, my joints more supple and my energy is better. All signs that my digestive energy is stronger and I'm building my blood and thereby my uterine lining, as should you!
I'd like to share with you a breakfast I've found to be really effective at nourishing my blood and strengthening my digestive energy. It's quick and easy 'cause ain't nobody got time to spend hours making breakfast ;-)
First, I cook up a cup of my favorite whole grains or combination of grains. Any whole grain will do, whether it's oatmeal, quinoa, etc. (Quinoa is a great protein-rich grain.)
Then I add the following:
1.) A handful of Go Qi berries - Go Qi berries are a Chinese herb used in herbal formulas, as well as foods. to build blood cells.
2.) A tablespoon of coconut oil - Coconut oil supports the thyroid, tastes yummy and is a source of healthy fat. Thyroid health is crucial for fertility.
3.) A teaspoon of honey - This is mostly for taste, but honey also supports the immune system.
4.) A handful of walnuts - Walnuts are high in fertility-friendly Omegas and add protein.
5.) A tablespoon of chia seeds - rich in antioxidants, protein and omegas, chia seeds are a wonderful fertility superfood.
Optional to add - fresh berries, other nuts, raisins, cranberries.
Try this quick, easy, delicious fertility-friendly breakfast this cycle and let me know if you notice healthier flow during your next period!
