32 Detox Drinks For Cleansing And Weight Loss

Here is a fantastic collection of 32 super-healthy drinks that have natural ingredients
associated with cleansing and detox regimens! These may be well suited to weight loss plans and we’ve done some research into the health benefits of each.
#1: Matcha Mango Pineapple Smoothie
The star of this smoothie is Matcha! Matcha is the Japanese name for green tea, typically coming in powdered form and used in a variety of ways from the obvious – mixing up a hot tea – to more novel ways like ice cream and mochi (mochi is a small rice cake, usually with a sweet filling). A study done in Japan has found that consumption of green tea is directly associated with a reduction in mortality caused by heart disease. Green tea is also able to fight against specific strains of bacteria like Streptococcus mutans and control starch digestion in the stomach (which can lead to weight loss!).
Mango and pineapple also have their fair share of benefits. Mangoes are rich in anti-oxidants, vitamin C, and dietary fiber – all substances that boost the immune system and keep the body at a healthy weight. Pineapples have also been found to fight the development and spread of breast cancer tumors, along with potent antioxidant abilities.
#2: Pomegranate Pineapple Lemon Juice
Pomegranate is the star of the “love story” between Hades and Persephone but it also has very potent anti-oxidant benefits, able to manage oxidative stress in the body. Oxidative stress happens when free radicals from preservatives and chemicals damage our cells and tissues, affecting the way they function. A study discovered that pomegranate juice was able to protect liver tissue, especially against damage caused by chemicals like alcohol and medication. On the other hand, lemon is rich in the immune-booster, Vitamin C, and has been shown effective against skin infections caused by dermatophytes.
#3: Love Your Greens Juice
The ubiquitous green juice has been the star of the detoxification movement, featured in Youtubers’ vlogs, magazines, cooking and lifestyle shows – the works. Green vegetables are among the healthiest kind of vegetables you can blend together and include in your diet. Popular options include spinach and watercress. Spinach is very rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals that detoxify the body and boost the immune system. Watercress is considered the healthiest vegetable according to a CDC study, able to reduce heart disease risk (as well as other non-communicable diseases) and being very dense in nutrient value.
#4: Dieter’s Dream Water
If using a blender or food processor seems too much work for you, opt for soaking your favorite mix of fruits and vegetables in water instead! The potency of this drink is not as good as a juice or smoothie but it is still a refreshing and more nutritious option that just plain water. You can slice your fruits and vegetables and dump them into a glass jar overnight for best results. You can keep refilling the jar too, as not to let the fruits and vegetables go to waste!
#5: Super Hydration Juice
This juice has three main ingredients – cucumbers, apples, and beets. Like apples, cucumbers are mainly water – exactly 96 percent according to a study by the College of Agriculture in the University of Kentucky. In fact, apples are 84 percent water making both excellent ways to replenish lost fluid after vigorous activities like exercising. Beets are also an excellent addition to this juice because of their antioxidant and anticancer characteristics, as well as their ability to regulate the body’s metabolism.
#6: Red and Green Festive Cocktail
Turn the spotlight away from eggnog during the holidays and shine it instead of this festive drink made with cranberries, pomegranate, and kale! We all know how healthy pomegranate is, but what about cranberries and kale? Cranberries are a famous antioxidant; you will often be advised to drink cranberry juice when battling a urinary tract infection. A study has backed this up by the positive results in drinking cranberry concentrate on UTIs caused by E. coli. Not only that, different varieties of cranberries have been found to have strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory characteristics.
Likewise, kale is a nutrient-packed vegetable, high in antioxidants like vitamin C, polyphenols, and beta-carotene. According to a 2012 study, the best way to use kale is raw — that includes juicing!
#7: Rainbow Veggie Juice
While the end result isn’t remotely close to the colors of the rainbow the ingredients come pretty close. The greens – celery, parsley, cilantro, cucumber, romaine lettuce; the reds – tomatoes, red bell peppers; the yellows – lemons, ginger root; the oranges (not an actual orange though) – carrots. If there was a single juice that could hold the title “ultimate detoxifier” it would be this.
• Parsley has been found to be brain food – improving the effects of oxidative stress on brain tissue and promoting neuron health.
• Coriander is a do-all – anxiolytic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-convulsant, and anti-cancer are some of its characteristics.
• Romaine lettuce is in 9th place for the most nutrient dense vegetables according to the CDC.
• Tomatoes are well-known for being an excellent source of lycopene, a substance able to fight cancer. A study in 2015 revealed that the higher the lycopene intake, the less your risk for prostate cancer.
• Celery, Red bell peppers, ginger, lemons, and carrots are a rich source of antioxidants, much like the other constituents of this juice.
#8: Citrus and Green Tea Detox Smoothie
The benefits of green tea have been previously discussed, focusing on its strong antioxidant capabilities and heart-helping prowess. Add some much needed vitamin C from citrus fruits like lemons and oranges to that and you’ll have a drink that also makes your immune system stronger aside from getting rid of the body’s toxins. Plus, the sweet, tangy taste of citrus will do well to balance the slightly bitter taste of green tea.
#9: Golden Detox Drink
The word “golden” in this drink’s name comes from Turmeric. You read that right! This spicy herb is a great detoxifier, rich in alkaloids, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and phenolics. The thing that makes turmeric an amazing spice is curcumin, which also has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties that can do wonders for hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer. You can honey, ginger and lemon for some sweetness zest as well.
#10: Whole Food Spicy Green Juice
A little editing can make green juice tastier! To be honest, the end result of most common green juice or smoothie recipes is pretty bitter (or bland, if you add too much ice or water) so a dash of spice can help balance things out! You can some a little bit of ginger for the spice (or lemon, which is a more common option) and a little bit of honey. Cucumber will also work well in balancing out the taste.
#11: Grapefruit-cado Sunrise Smoothie
Avocado is a great source of carbohydrates that easily get used by the body (meaning its fat content is highly bioavailable) so don’t be afraid to include this in your smoothie. In fact, the lipids from avocado have been found to control bleeding and prevent blood clots, making it good for the heart. But the grapefruit is really the star of this one! Different varieties of grapefruit have a variety of antioxidants, especially their distilled essential oils that can also manage anxiety, pain caused by cancer, and infections. The flavonoids from grapefruit have even been found to induce cancer-cell death in leukemia. Other important (and healthy!) ingredients in this smoothie include oranges, strawberries, bananas, and a little bit of maple syrup – all great sources of vitamins.
#12: Detox Blueberry Fruit Smoothie
Blueberries are not only delicious, they’re an excellent source of nutrition, exhibiting the most antioxidant activity compared to 42 other fruits in a 1998 study by Prior. A study published in 2014 even found that smaller blueberries had more antioxidants than bigger ones because small fruits had more antioxidants concentrated in their skin. Anthocyanins are responsible for the antioxidant activity of blueberries, having anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer abilities. Blueberry smoothies work best with bananas, cranberry juice, and a lot of ice!
#13: Orange Surprise
While oranges are rich in vitamin C and are healthy in their own right, this detox drink has absolutely zero oranges involved! The orange color of the drink actually comes from carrots instead. Carrots exhibit strong anti-oxidant activity, able to protect the liver and even shows promise in the management of leukemia. This drink also includes celery, apples, and lime for a more balanced taste.
#14: Green Smoothie
A variation of the green juice, the green smoothie actually uses a sweeter alternative to leafy greens – avocados. Full of nutrients that detoxify the body and highly bioavailable fat, it’s a great source of energy at the start of your day. A special ingredient in this smoothie is flax seed, a great source of omega-threes and fiber that help reduce the risk for heart disease and cancer. This smoothie is also made with yogurt and a little bit of salt for flavor.
#15: Drink Your Veggie Pizza
This may sound a little gross but this kind of drink is basically tomato juice with a twist! Using the cancer-fighting tomato as a base, the other ingredients will just add other interesting notes to the flavor! Bell peppers, yellow onion, kale, a bit of garlic, and a few hints of basil will up the anti-oxidant powers of this drink! It’s not exactly pizza of course and the name is just for fun but it might just be the healthiest kind you can include in your diet and not damage your arteries! Garlic is regarded as a great way to fight heart disease and keep your blood vessels clear from blockage.
#16: Ayurveda Detoxifying Tea
Add dried leaves of cumin, coriander, and fennel in a tea bag and you have your own detox tea prepped and ready to go. Cumin is rich in polyphenols, an antioxidant that can prevent heart disease and cancer – especially in ripe cumin seeds. Fennel, on the other hand, is not only an antioxidant but has excellent antibacterial properties as well.
#17: Mango Ginger Lemonade
With summer fast approaching, lemonade is at the top of everyone’s list of the best drinks to cool down with. You can turn this drink even healthier by adding mango and ginger, not to mention the interesting blend of flavors the three ingredients make together. Use as much mango and lemonade as you like but be careful with the ginger! You don’t want your lemonade too spicy.
#18: Love Your Liver Juice
If there was a singular organ with the function of detoxifying the body it would be the liver. The liver is responsible for filtering out toxins from the human blood, which explains why alcoholics have their livers damaged beyond repair. The vegetable in this drink recipe that is responsible for promoting liver health is beet! Beets are rich in anti-oxidants that not only help clear toxins from the blood but also reduce liver damage caused by excessive amounts of alcohol.
#19: Detox Beet and Carrot Smoothie
Another variation to the Love Your Liver Juice is a smoothie made with beets, carrots, grapes, and green tea. Not only does this drink pack a punch in the detoxification department, it also boosts immunity with vitamin C and improves eye health with carotenoids.
#20: Detox Smoothie
This smoothie is pretty straight up with its ingredients, using spinach as a base. However, because spinach isn’t really the best tasting of greens, adding pineapple juice, lemon, and ginger help improve the smoothie’s flavor, as well as adding even more detoxification and immune-boosting powers.
#21: Low Carb Green Smoothie
Let’s face it — the reason why a lot of us want to “detox” is to lose a little bit (or a lot of!) weight. By detoxifying the body, we return the balance to our body’s systems which helps regulate our weight. Of course, a lot of us are still health conscious regarding the calories we include in our diet so here’s a drink that is low-carb and still meets the body’s needs in the detoxification department, while being extremely delicious. Just add coconut water, a tablespoon of almond butter, wheat grass, spinach, low-carb chocolate protein, banana, ice, and honey to taste.
#22: Spring Cleaning Detox
This time, flaxseed takes center stage! Flax seed is known for its omega-threes and antioxidant content so it can be an excellent ingredient to make a drink around. Because of its fiber content, it can help regulate digestion too – hence a form of spring cleaning for the body! Just soak flaxseeds in a glass of water to help release the antioxidants and use the entire thing (water and seeds in all!) to blend together your favorite fruits and vegetables. Carrots, apples, and ginger works best but you can choose which flavors you like best in your drink.
#23: Honey Drink with Ginger and Lemon
This drink is a favorite not just for detox-ing but all managing an upset stomach! You can have this ice cold or warm (the latter preferred if your stomach is not doing too well). Just mix some ginger, lemon, and honey in a blender and serve with ice! You can even keep the spiciness of the ginger to a minimum by stewing a few ginger pieces in water and adding some lemon and ice instead of blending it all together.
#24: Sugar-free Indian Gooseberry Drink
When choosing which fruits have the best antioxidant properties, you will often find berries at the top of the list. Anthocyanins are the main substance found in berries that give them strong detoxification abilities. Gooseberries are just one kind of berries whose detoxification abilities are off the charts. You can juice gooseberries together with some lemon and mint and serve cold!
#25: Beet Juice Smoothie
Here were have another drink with beets as the main ingredient! This time, this recipe highly encourages raw beets which have the best antioxidants, compared to canned or pickled beets. You can choose to add a fruit to this smoothie and maybe even some mint for added sweetness and zest. We advise something sweet-sour like pineapple or oranges to cut the beet’s flavor.
#26: Citrus Smoothies
Arguably the most popular kind of detox drink on this list is the citrus smoothie. Citrus fruits are known for being high in Vitamin C (immune boosting!) but also their antioxidant activity. A 2016 study was done on a variety of citrus fruits, highlighting their ability to fight chronic diseases by detoxifying the body and strengthening the immune system.
#27: Green Lemonade
We’ve all seen pink and blue lemonade but what about green lemonade? Add a little bit of kale, lettuce, apple, and a dash of ginger blended together in your lemonade and see your drink turn into something cooling to something very healthy! It can also be a nice way to get your kids to “eat” vegetables without them knowing the wiser! See also: Lavender lemonade
#28: Cranberry Bliss Detox Smoothie
Cranberry is at the forefront of this one, blending together with pears, apples, and turmeric for total detox heaven for your liver. This is a little bit different from the Festive Smoothie earlier, focusing more on the sweetness of the cranberry rather than reminding you of the cranberry sauce with Thanksgiving’s turkey. You can even add a little bit of honey to taste for this one.
#29: Natural Daily Detox Remedy Drink
Of course, drinking detoxification drinks and smoothies everyday can be troublesome (especially with all that blending for a few drinks!) and hard on the budget. Here’s a simple recipe you can make in bulk that has amazing detoxification abilities – all without breaking the bank. Just mix some apple cider vinegar with water and honey! ACV has strong antimicrobial properties, as well as abilities to regulate lipids and oxidative stress in the body.
#30: Cocktail Wellness
This cocktail of wellness has Kombucha right in the middle. Kombucha is fermented black tea teeming with acetic acid bacteria and yeast – much like apple cider vinegar. While a lot of studies have discovered that too much Kombucha can cause damage to the body, in moderated amounts it has strong hepatoprotective effects, able to protect liver tissue from chemical damage. Serve this drink diluted in cold water and ice with a dash of honey.
#31: Lemon Ginger Detox Drink
This is a combination that never fails (and is super easy to whip up!). Take plain, fresh squeezed lemonade, and add some ginger for an extra zing. You can take this hot or cold, but best in the morning to wake up your stomach and get the detoxification process started early right before breakfast. Add raw honey to taste.
#32 Green Tea
Last but definitely not least, the beloved green tea. It’s been considered a weight loss aid when taken unsweetened, owing to its ability to rev up metabolism. The tea polyphenols have numerous other health benefits, plus you may find the energy boost is smoother and less “edgy” than that of black tea.
