Twinkie Minions

The holidays are here and that means your children are probably at home!  If you’re looking
for a fun project that you can do with your children, they might like these Twinkie Minions!

Ingredients

• Twinkies (American grocery stores orAmazon)
• Black decorating icing (I used this)
• Wilton decorating tip #3 round (I usethis)
• Wilton coupler ring (I use this)
• Candy eyeballs – small (I used this)
• Candy eyeballs – large (I used this)
• Black candy melts (I used this)
• 1 bag (11-12 oz) white chocolate chips
• 1 tsp. shortening (I used this brand)
• Blue candy color (I bought this set) (See Note)
• Chocolate sprinkles (similar to this)
  

Instructions

1. Attach the decorating tip #3 to the black icing. Prepare candy eyeballs.
   
2. Pipe a1/8 inch diameter of black icing where you put the candy eyeball (use it as glue). Press the candy eye squarely on top so that the excess icing will become the frame of Minion’s goggle.
   
3. In a double boiler, melt the black candy melts according to the package instruction. Using the silicon spatula, mix occasionally.
   
4. Put melted black candy in a plastic bag (I use a Ziploc bag) and snip the corner of the bag. Pipe the black candy melt into a shape of heart that resemble Minion’s feet.
   
5. In a double boiler, melt the white chocolate chips.
   
6. Once melted completely, add 1 tsp. shortening and combine well.
   
7. Add blue coloring (make sure it’s not water based or chocolate will seize)
   
8. Transfer a portion of the melted blue candy melts into a plastic bag (ziplog bag), snip off the tip and pipe the straps and bib of the overalls. I learned later that you can use a toothpick to spread out the candy melt after piping, so that the surface will be smooth.
   
9. Insert chocolate sprinkles into Twinkie or draw hair with black icing on Twinkie to represent Minion’s hair.
   
10. Dip the Twinkie into the blue candy melts till the bottom of the bib. Remove the excess candy melts. I find out later that it helps when you draw the minion’s mouth at the end so that you have more place to hold Twinkie when you dip.
    
11. Then immediately place the Minion over the feet and hold steady for 1-2 minutes until it can hold itself.
    
12. Draw a variation of mouths and fingers with black icing. It’s done!
    

Notes

IMPORTANT: Make sure the blue candy color is OIL base, not water base. If it’s water base color, it will seize the chocolate. 

Instead of using a tube of black decorating icing, you can just use black candy melts and pipe.

Instead of combining white chocolate chips and blue color, you could use blue candy melts.
