KNOWLEDGE + VOLITION + ACTION = RESULTS

The problem is that there's an ocean of "knowledge" out there about how to lose weight. (Susan Peirce Thompson)
Looking for guidance is like trying to get a drink of water from a fire hydrant.
It's completely overwhelming.
I can't tell you how many people have said to me, "I wish someone would just tell me what to eat. Tell me what to do, and I'll do it."
I love helping people like that.
The weight-loss landscape is loud, cluttered and contradictory. The maddening thing is that there are genuine disagreements among the foremost experts about what's okay to eat and what's not okay to eat. I used to find it all really disheartening.
But I don't anymore. When someone shares some nutrition, fitness, or weight-loss advice with me, I have no trouble discerning what's true and helpful from what's not true and not helpful.
One of my biggest motives in starting this email list is to simplify the landscape for people. There really are some guiding principles that make it all a lot clearer.
So in the next four emails, here's what I'm going to cover:
1. The two places you should not be looking for knowledge about how to lose weight (but odds are, these are the two sources you've been depending on most)
2. The one reliable source of knowledge you can trust
3. The foods everyone agrees you should be eating
4. The foods everyone agrees you should not be eating
The next email you'll receive from me will discuss where to get your knowledge from. You might think that since I'm a psychology professor with a Ph.D. in Brain and Cognitive Sciences who teaches a course on the Psychology of Eating I'm going to tell you to trust the scientific research on what works and what doesn't work.
But that's not what I'm going to say.
And the reason might surprise you.
