Apple season is the perfect time to pick apples by the bushel: then dehydrate them to make apple chips, bake them, and slice and dip them in assorted nut butters. This easy recipe will fill your entire house with a homey, delicious aroma as it bubbles and bakes. This naturally sweet treat is so simple that the most difficult thing will be waiting for it to cool down enough to eat.
Hot Apples [Vegan, Gluten-Free]
Ingredients
- 4 apples (Fuji and Gala are excellent)
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 vanilla bean
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Kid’s job! Using a swivel peeler and a kid-safe knife, peel, core, and cut your apples into 2-inch chunks.
- Pile the chunks into a medium casserole dish and sprinkle with the cinnamon. Cut the vanilla bean in half lengthwise. Reserve one half for another use. Scrape the insides of the other half into the casserole, then add the empty bean carcass. Mix thoroughly.
- Cover the casserole with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove the casserole from the oven and uncover. Let the apples cool for at least 5 minutes.
- Once cool enough to eat, the apples will be spoon-tender. Dig in.
